Ignition

Ignition is an AI-native employee benefits brokerage, backed by Y Combinator. I joined because benefits are one of a company's biggest costs, and most employers have no way to know if they're overpaying.

I joined in May as employee #5 and the Founding Product Designer. As the only designer, I owned the brand, the marketing site, and the product. I pushed early for a full rebrand, established the foundational design system, and defined the V1 platform using an AI-native workflow.

Summer 2026

Building a brand that earns trust from day one

Ignition asks CEOs to hand over one of their biggest, most sensitive costs, and to trust a brand-new company with it. The original identity felt generic and similar to other products, undercutting trust before a sales call even started. Within my first weeks, I made the case to our CEO for a full rebrand rather than a refresh. I ran the agency search, and when the shortlist came down to price, I pushed for a top-tier studio over a safe, mid-tier pick: for a company selling trust, the brand had to look established from day one. We chose Studio Freight.

As the key stakeholder on our side, I set direction and gave feedback through every round. Studio Freight delivered a complete system: logo, typography, color, graphics, photography, data visualization, and UI.

I then redesigned and launched the marketing site, carrying the system across products, solutions, calculators, and customer stories.

Fall 2026

Designing an AI-native benefits platform

Most brokers hand employers a renewal number and a two-week deadline, with no explanation. Employers can't tell if they're overpaying, so switching feels risky and most do nothing. I built Ignition's V1 around one idea: show employers their workforce the way the carrier sees it, so every decision after feels clear. I mapped the full sales journey with our CEO and licensed brokers, then prototyped with AI tools and real data. Going from concept to clickable prototype in days let us test real flows with customers before committing.
